Willard Suitcases is a photograph series created by Jon Crispin that showcases the lives that insane asylum residents left behind at the Willard Psychiatric Center in Willard, NY. The asylum, established in 1869, went on to accept patients for the next 126 years. In 1995, the facility closed, and an employee was put in charge of collecting the remnants of the residents’ things and put them in suitcases. The suitcases were put away in the attic until recently, when they were again discovered. These are the photographs that were taken of the suitcases.
